The Old Bight Primary School was established in 1976. In 1980, a new school was built at the beginning of the Old Bight settlement, with six classrooms, a staff room for teachers, Principal’s Office, teachers and students’ bathrooms. This new building opened in 1981. The building is situated in the Southern District of Cat Island in a settlement known as Old Bight. Thus the name of the school derived – Old Bight Primary.

The school accommodates Grades 1-6, and a Preschool unit for K3 and K4 classes.  The first Principal was Ms. Iva Strachan who served from 1981 to 2000. Then, Rev. Christopher King served as Principal from 2000 to 2016. Presently, Ms. Olivia King serves as Principal.
