OUR HISTORY

The A. F. Adderley Junior High School was originally named the Southern Senior School, situated on the corner of Wulff Road and Collins Avenue in the building that now houses Columbus Primary School.

Mr. Olgden Nash was the first principal, and in 1952 the late Carlton E. Francis succeeded him. The school began as a secondary school where the Cambridge Junior Certificate examination was written at the end of the secondary level education.

In 1966, the school was moved to its present site on the corner of Harold and Baillou Hill Roads. The school was then re-named the Harold Road Secondary School; later, the school’s name was changed to Baillou Hill High.

In 1973, the name was changed to the A. F. Adderley Secondary School in honour of the late Alfred Francis Adderley. Mr. Adderley was a true statesman and was dubbed Commander of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire because of his contribution to Bahamian society in the fields of law, education, sports, politics and government.
